A Day at the Beach / the Meaning of Light

Kerrilynn and I went to Rockaway yesterday. It was a bright day and that West Coast looking filter-y yellow light I love was very much alive as the sun was setting. The best time at the beach is always 4-8 in my book. Less crowds, cops, and chance of skin cancer. The water was cold [...]

Doctors Without Borders

Art For Haiti is having a print auction to benefit Doctors Without Borders‘ Haiti relief effort. These guys are heros. They provide primary and secondary care at no cost and have treated 127,000 people since the earthquake on January 12, 2010. You can support them and buy a photograph. Bidding goes until June 17th. This [...]

Stanley Greene is a badass

I’m pretty excited about Aperture’s re-publication of Black Passport by Stanley Greene.  He is a serious badass having covered wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Darfur, Mali, and Mauritania. If you see these two guys running with pipes what would you do? a) take a picture b) run away c) shit yourself Obviously he is not [...]

Carne Mag

Issue no.3 of Carne Magazine is available now. I bet it looks awesome on an iPad. They definitely went all Sexyback on this one. I like this pic by Jonathan May: and this one by Scott Pommier:

Hetherington and Sheldon at Julian Richards

Congrats to Andrew Hetherington and Noah Sheldon who join Dean Kaufman at Julian Richards. Want to feel kerflummoxed? Read Mr. Richards blog entitled Homily. It’s hilarious and there are lots of fifty cent words about doing the nasty.

Cruel Irony

“Lowlifes – get a real job.” Here I am having quit a career in graphic design thinking how smart I am when, out of the blue: sucker punch. A multi-millionaire real estate developer who is scamming Medicaid  for $59,000 calls the photographers at his court arraignment lowlifes! I’m guessing his next job (post-scam artist/real estate [...]

This Barry Stone photograph (up at the Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery) reminded me of this New York Times article about doctors using hallucinogens. Kinda tangential but the photograph gives me mild vertigo and an itchy feeling. Mr. Stone has two blogs “yes yes yes” and “o empire wide and glorious.”

I found this amazing image on Matt Eich’s site. Mr. Eich shares a bit about the Ledet family alligator farm in Louisiana over at the Luceo Images blog.
